When you visit the Okataina Outdoor Education Centre, it’s like stepping into a warm and welcoming home. To ensure that everyone can enjoy this beautiful environment, we have some basic rules in place for our Centre. As valued guests, we expect you to take responsibility for your own behavior as well as that of any visitors accompanying you during your stay.
As hosts of this wonderful facility, the team at the Okataina Centre reserves the right to cancel bookings if necessary or refuse future reservations based on their discretion. We want all who come here to feel safe and secure while enjoying everything nature has to offer – so let’s work together towards creating an unforgettable experience!
To confirm your booking the completed booking form must be received via email or postal. If confirmation is not received, the Okataina Outdoor Education Centre reserves the right to cancel the booking and allocate the venue to another internal or external client.
Your Deposit is non refundable if a booking is cancelled less than 2 weeks of intended occupation. For Public holiday weekends and official NZ school holidays the cancellation period is 4 weeks.

The Outdoor Centre facilities will be unlocked prior to your arrival. For emergencies please ring the Kaitarehu – Outdoor Education Centre Coordinator.
The Hirer shall conduct its business on the premises in a clean, professional, ethical manner at all times. The Hirer shall be responsible for the conduct of all persons attending the premises whilst on the Outdoor Education Centre grounds.
Due to the location of our camp NO DOGS OR PETS ALLOWED as you may come across deer, pigs, wallabies and a variety of birds.
Please note that we have a Responsible Alcohol Consumption Policy. It is essential to inform THE Outdoor Education Centre Coordinator If you intend to consume alcohol during your stay.
The Outdoor Education Centre is a smoke free environment. SMOKING IS PROHIBITED at all times within the buildings.
No drugs may be brought onto the Outdoor Education Centre grounds or buildings.
The Hirer shall provide and be responsible for all catering arrangements and cleaning. Any leftovers should be placed in the Rotorua Lakes Council bins provided.
Whilst we provide the beds and mattresses, you do need to bring your own pillows, sheets, blankets, and or sleeping bags. During winter months we encourage you to bring warm bedding.
The Hirer is responsible for ensuring that all housekeeping requirements are carried out before departure. Any extra cleaning required will be charged for at current award rates. The Hirer will be responsible for any damage or loss to the Outdoor Centre property while the Hirer has the use of the facility(ies). Any damage caused from this will be passed to the Hirer and charged accordingly.
Please evacuate the buildings IMMEDIATELY by the designated exit. There is an evacuation notice in every room and groups hiring facilities should familiarise themselves with the procedures to be followed.
School groups staying overnight or longer must provide a RAMS available for the Kaitarehu – Outdoor Centre Coordinator for the duration of their stay. There should be at least one adult per 7-8 pupils.
Any stationery, display materials, or items of clothing/blankets left at the Outdoor Centre after your booking will be held on the property for a maximum of one week for collection if required. If not collected within that timeframe – items will be disposed of.
